Marie, who set the theme asks "who has inspired you?" My entry is a watercolour I painted about 8 years ago, I was inspired by the English artist L. S. Lowry (1887 - 1976). He was from a working class background and lived in Manchester, Lancashire, the then industrial north of England and he painted the things he saw around him. Many of his best works were painted during the depression of the 1920's
therefore most of his paintings show dark & dreary landscapes featuring his 'matchstalk men & matchstalk cats & dogs!' This lead to a song with the same title which contains a brief history of the artist.
My entry features my own painting which is loosely based on the painting - Waiting for the Shops to Open, on Lowry's easel and along with Lowry were sourced from Google.
Excllent choice and work Judy. Hope you are having a great week

Oh woweeee Judy this is just so so special. Bravo and loud applause from this corner.
ReplyDeleteJudy, your tribute to Lowry is fantastic! I love the way you superimposed his image over your wonderful artwork. Brilliant! Hugs, Terri xoxo
ReplyDeleteHey Judy, you were dragging your feet! You are usually first in line for the challenge. Seriously, your inspirational person is a great choice. I love the artist's work and I remember THE SONG! Very catchy. I love the way you have blended in an image of the artist and your own painting (wish we could see more of it). Thanks so much for a great take on the theme.

ReplyDeleteA very impressive entry, Judy! I love that I always learn something from the challenge entries. This is a new artist to me, and I enjoyed looking at his work. Thanks for your participation.
ReplyDeleteI am new here and in a few minutes I have seen so many beautiful pieces. Yours is wonderful. I love the idea of your painting on an easel and the artist's image blended into the picture. Thanks for introducing us to the painter.

ReplyDeleteVery sweet..this painting alone inspires me to create even more artwork! Fantastic painting
ReplyDeleteJudy - apologies for getting the wrong end of the stick. I came back to admire your work and it is YOUR painting that takes pride of place (and what a great painting it is) and the small one on the easel is Lowry's.
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic - I love how you have superimposed Lowry and his easel almost as if his ghost is doing the painting. Your art work isn't bad either!!!

Your painting is very beautiful, and it's a great way to show your respect to your artistic inspiration.
ReplyDeleteYour watercolor is wonderful! Despite the bustle of activity portrayed, it conveys a strangely lonely mood. How did you do that? Thank you for sharing it. Now, I must go investigate Lowry!
