The Three Muses - Long Ago and Far Away

'Long ago and far away' relates to my birthplace - England, signified by the English flag & postage stamp depicting its patron Saint - St George. The red rose is associated with both England & Lancashire, Preston is the town in that county where I was born & 1972 was the year I left to come to New Zealand. The Lancashire boundary sign could be between there & Cumbria where my Grandmother's family were born, not far from the photo where my mother spent many years hiking in the same area. Finally, the words are from what has become England's national hymn - Jerusalem.

  1. Judy, this is a most beautiful tribute to your birthplace. I can see that a tremendous amount of thought has gone into it. I don't have any English roots but the anthem "Jerusalem" always sends shivers up my spine. I love your take on this week's theme. It is superb.

  3. Thank you so much for sharing your personal story, Judy, and in such a beautiful way. The hymn was not familiar to me, and so I immediately went sleuthing it out in total so I'd not miss a beautiful word. This piece is outstanding. Take a big bow!

  9. If only England were still like that! As for Jerusalem - as a member of our village WI I still sing that occasionally (very badly!) but it is the most beautiful hymn.

Did you know Jerusalem was penned when a certain gentleman was visiting Bradford and saw it's dark and satanic mills?
