After reading various historical interpretations of 'Mary, Mary, quite contrary' I decided to create one of the alternative versions of this rhyme! In my 'dark' creation I have depicted Mary as Mary Tudor, giving her an authoritative stance and mean facial expression, as I read she persecuted & murdered people who were not of her religion, but I stopped short of making the 'silver bells & cockle shells' her instruments of torture!
Sky from a set of textures for layers at flickr.com/photos/telzey, garden - Dover, image - no record sorry, maids, silver bells & cockle shells from teachersandfamilies.com. Other bits & pieces from PSE6 and garden altered with 'watercolour' filter.
Wonderful card and great idea, Judy!

ReplyDeleteFantastic, Judy! I love the idea of a nursery rhyme with a dark side. It seems that many of the rhymes did refer to the politics of the day and dire happenings such as the Great Plague.
